There are some “rules” of business success most entrepreneurs abide by. But many also have their own “secrets”—things they do or believe that helped them achieve success. In “Secrets of Success,” a weekly interview series here at Web.com’s Small Business Forum, I ask some of today’s smartest, most innovative, most successful business owners to share their insights and success secrets with you.
Meet: Constance Amedore, the founder of Little Royal Two. Constance used to play basketball in college and found her collection of brightly colored, knee-high socks to be an important fashion statement for all her practice and game day outfits. Fast forward a few years, and after Constance gave birth to her son Andreas in 2013, she couldn’t wait to dress him in sporty, bright, stylish socks. However, she had a very difficult time finding socks for Andreas that were stylish and stayed on.
So, in the nature of a true entrepreneur, Constance decided to design her own socks. She named the company “Little Royal Two,” because she was pregnant with her second child when she started the business in March 2014.
Constance is also a special education teacher for kindergarten and first grade students. She believes all children can succeed—and is proud of every accomplishment of her own children and the children she teaches in her classroom.
Rieva Lesonsky: What did you want to be when you grew up?
Constance Amedore: A heart surgeon.
Lesonsky: Why did you start your own business?
Amedore: As a mom I saw a need for my product—I couldn’t find bright, knee-high baby socks that stayed on so I started my own company that provided these socks.
Lesonsky: Did you experience a pivotal moment on your way to success?
Amedore: I’ve always been a driven person. I wasn’t raised with much; my mom made my clothes or people gave them to us. We got a lot of food from the local food pantry. I’m glad I was raised this way because I learned at an early age to work for everything I wanted. When I was able to work, I worked every chance I got–two or three jobs–and went to college and played college basketball. I was determined to make something of myself and always told myself that one day I would make it!
Lesonsky: What’s the best small business advice you ever gave and/or received?
Amedore: Never give up, and take chances. You will never know what can happen if you don’t try.
Lesonsky: What’s one “best practice” more entrepreneurs should be embracing?
Amedore: Customer service! I really try to interact with my customers and make their experiences memorable. Those little extra touches to the packaging and interacting with customers on social media really make a difference.
Lesonsky: Do you have a prediction for small business?
Amedore: My prediction is Little Royal Two will continue to grow!
Lesonsky: What’s your favorite book?
Amedore: The Bible is my favorite book. It is so inspirational!
Lesonsky: Is there a quote you find particularly inspiring?
