1. Social media advertising becomes a smart strategy

Facebook ad prices grew 10% this year and will probably increase during 2015. Wanna guess why? Facebook ads work. Hence, there will be greater demand.

Over at Twitter, we’re looking at a similar trend but for different reasons. Twitter ads will gain in popularity because they are flexible, letting you choose what performance to pay for.

2. Google+ will not die

So many people gleefully predicted the death of Google+ this year, but it won’t die. It’ll just be what it is now – another place to share your blog posts to feed the Google search engine beast. Also, Google Hangouts is a great video conferencing tool.

3. Ello could become a social media player

Sentiment is mixed about the new social media network Ello, but it is likely to become a player in the social media landscape. Positioned as the “anti-Facebook” yet derided as a favorite of hipsters (it was created by a group of artists and designers), the site remains invite-only.

However, it promises to be ad-free and never sell user information, which is huge. How will it make money, you ask? When will it go public? Don’t know; we will have to wait and see.

4. Video shifts into hyperdrive

Everyone is saying that video is going to undergo massive changes. Interactive videos will become more commonplace, and augmented reality could start to show up here and there. It will be interesting to see what kind of tools are introduced to make these features accessible to small business owners.

5. Visual content marketing continues to dominate

No surprise here! Pinterest, Instagram (which just surpassed Twitter in user numbers), Slideshare presentations, and infographics will continue to dominate social media and digital marketing strategies. If your small business has yet to use these platforms, make sure they are included in your 2015 marketing strategy!

6. Podcasting is back and bigger than ever

According to this article in the Washington Post, Americans spend more than three hours a day commuting, working out and doing household chores, and they are choosing to listen to podcasts while doing so. Podcasting start growing in 2014, and it’ll continue to gain popularity in 2015.
