Four months ago, Verisign announced their domain name contest, celebrating the 30th anniversary of “.com”. As part of the promotion, entrepreneurs who registered a .com domain name through Verisign or any participating partners like Web.com brand, NetworkSolutions.com, could then submit their names and business ideas, explaining in 500 words or less, why both were so awesome! Participants then promoted their entries through social networks to accumulate votes. The public votes, along with the professional opinions of an all-star panel of celebrity judges including Celebrity Apprentice, Bill Rancic; Shark Tank icon and entrepreneur, Lori Greiner; Small Business Trends CEO, Anita Campbell; TheDomains Owner/Publisher/Investor Michael Berkens; and Igor CEO Steve Manning, a naming expert for over 17 years; then selected 5 winners each month, who won $5,000 each. The Grand Prize Winner would then win $30,000, for a total of $35,000 in prizes.
According to Verisign, New York-based Kate K. submitted the most descriptive, memorable and original new .com domain name, that resonated with its judges, while also receiving the most votes from the public. According to KidsCookDinner.com, its goal is to get children thinking about the importance of sharing food with family and friends, appreciating the process and getting children to cook more in the kitchen.
In addition, KidsCookDinner says on its website, that they will be donating 1/3 of their grand prize (or $10,000) to Action Against Hunger (or ACF International). This international organization is dedicated to saving the lives of malnourished children, while helping vulnerable communities become self-sufficient.
